Alfonso arrived in London in 1996 and since then has aimed to recreate the ethos of Italian home cooking from his youth, focusing on serving traditional, peasant, rustic food.
Mamma Concetta opened in Bedford in 2018 and Alfonso works with his son Carlo.
Insisting on fresh produce Mamma Concetta uses only San Marzano Tomatoes & Fior Di Latte Mozzarella. The dough is fermented for a minimum of 24hrs using the original mother dough recipe, making the dough effectively a sour dough which is light and airy, the perfect authentic Italian pizza combination!
The atmosphere at Mamma Concetta is about an open door welcome, to feel part of the family… just like the feeling Alfonso had walking around the village of his youth experiencing the different cooking aromas coming from the open doors.
Eating has always been a family affair so please come to Mamma Concetta and join us!
The feast of San Rocco, celebrated on the 15th and 16th of August is an interesting event in which the whole town builds the so called golden lily, a real belltower made out of ears of wheat, which is then ground at the end of the celebration.
Every year Alfonso attends and helps with construction of the giglio in honour of our Patron Saint San Rocco, a tradition which goes back hundreds of years.
